Radiation can either emerge from radioactive materials placed within the body and close to the cancer cells, commonly known as brachytherapy or internal radiation therapy or through a machine outside the body which is known as external beam-radiation therapy.
A radioactive substance is inserted through mouth or through veins in systemic radiation therapy. This substance would travel through blood to the different tissues in the body.
