After or during diagnosis, physicians determine if a patient will benefit from the CyberKnife VSI treatment. CyberKnife VSI treatment involves a team approach in which various medical professionals collabrate so as to develop a treatment plan tailored as per the patient's needs.
Post diagnosis, the patient may be recommended the CyberKnife VSI treatment. Though the course may vary based on patient's specific requirements, a team of clinicians including Radiation Oncologists, Surgeons, Medical Physicists, Radiation Technicians and Nurse Coordinators play a key role.
Depending on the type and location of the tumor, our team recommends placement of Fiducials, which are small gold markers inserted near the tumor, to help identify the exact location of the tumor during treatment. Not all treatments require Fiducial markers. The determination is made based on the density, size and location of the tumor.

Before the treatment begins; an MRI, CT or a CT/PET scan is taken to determine the size, shape and location of the tumor.

Once the treatment plan is developed, the CyberKnife VSI treatment begins. At the CyberKnife VSI center, the patient is comfortably positioned on the treatment table, while the CyberKnife VSI's computer-controlled robot carefully moves around to deliver radiation at various locations, as prescribed in the prefixed treatment plan.
At the same time, the CyberKnife VSI system takes continual x-ray images, that provide real- time information about the location of the tumor and enables the system to dynamically track and correct any movement of the tumor. Depending on the type and location of the tumor, the patient undergoes 1-5 treatment sessions, each typically lasting an hour or less.
Most CyberKnife VSI patients do not experience side effects. Depending on the type of treatment one receives, side effects vary. Some side effects experienced by the patients are mild and do not require any intervention.
Patients should consult their doctor and discuss their side effects, that may occur and learn about their potential risks.
